What is a macros counter?

macros counters are devices used to help people calculate their daily macronutrient intake. These devices can range from simple calculators, smartphone applications, and digital scales connected to smartphone applications. The use of macros counters can help people track their daily food intake, providing a comprehensive look at their current macronutrient levels.

Macronutrients are classified as the three major components of food energy- proteins, carbohydrates and fats. According to the American Dietetic Association (ADA), a balanced diet should consist of an adequate amount of all three macronutrients – typically between 45-65% carbohydrates, 10-35% protein and 20-35% fat. Knowing one's current macro levels can be beneficial in helping to reach desired body composition goals or general health goals.

A macros counter such as MyFitnessPal or a Fitbit scale make tracking your macro levels simple and straightforward -all you need to do is enter in your foods for the day or weigh yourself on the scale and the device will automatically calculate your macro levels for you. Some digital scales with smart phone apps also have the capability to measure your body fat percentage while you weigh yourself. This level of technology allows you to gain an even more comprehensive understanding of your body composition beyond just measuring daily macros.

Calorie counters can take some time getting used to -it may take a few days or weeks before you're able to accurately accurately gauge your daily consumption correctly with them due to filling in log entries correctly as well as portion sizes being estimated correctly.
